LIST: Eoin Doyle and the Irish players plundering goals in the lower leagues

He's had a strong goal record wherever he has been, but this season Eoin Doyle has been excellence personified.

A tally of 21 league goals for Chesterfield put him top of the League One goalscoring charts. But more importantly it allowed the Dubliner to secure a move to Championship side Cardiff City just before last night's transfer deadline.

While, the ex-Sligo Rovers, Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers striker is the flagbearer for Irish players in the English lower leagues this season, he is far from the only one banging in the goals.

Daryl Murphy

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy has a habit of signing Irish players at every club he has been at and it has been no different at the Tractor Boys.

Waterford native Daryl Murphy is one of those names that have played for the ex-Ireland manager in a previous life, with the two linking up at Sunderland.

The 31-year-old arrived at Ipswich before McCarthy but this season has been his most productive as a professional player.

Forming a strike partnership with fellow Ireland striker David McGoldrick, he has ended up plundering 18 goals in the process.

As this Squawka graphic shows, the Ireland cap has been the proverbial fox in the box ...

And what's more? Before I forget, Murphy's tally of 18 makes him the current top scorer in the Championship.

Conor Hourihane

Cork man, Hourihane, is another ex-Sunderland player, although he joined in the post-McCarthy era. After spells at Ipswich and Plymouth, the midfielder moved to Barnsley in the summer for £200K.

He has been repaying that fee in League One with regular goals. He is Barnsley's top scorer this season and has already hit double figures with 11 in the league and another one in the cup.

Paddy Madden

In August 2013, ex-Bohs striker Paddy Madden won his first Ireland cap in a friendly against Wales. Eighteen months on he is enjoying life in League One with Scunthorpe United.

In his second season at Glanford Park, the 24-year-old has already eclipsed last season's goals total of five in 21 games.

This campaign has already seen him find the net 11 times in all competitions with much of the season still to run.

Three more goals will see him match his all-time high of goals which he achieved with Yeovil Town in the 2012/13 season.

James Collins

Further down in League Two, English-born James Collins has scored 14 times in 35 appearances for Shrewsbury Town.

The Aston Villa academy product has already had a fairly nomadic career by the age of 24, but has earned a dozen Ireland U21 caps.

The striker is currently Shrewsbury's top scorer.
