Leopardstown race course is getting a €12m facelift

Leopardstown racecourse plans to invest a further €12m in facilities, which will be partly funded by a €4.7m grant from Horse Racing Ireland.

Planned facilities include installation of a permanent marquee-style pavilion between the parade ring and main entrance where entertainment will be provided.

Bars and restaurants under the main grandstand near the entrance will also be completely revamped.

New facilities for owners, trainers and jockeys will include a new weigh room, changing rooms, medical facilities, winning owners’ hospitality suite and media centre.

Work on the project will begin early in 2016 - after the south Dublin venue's busy festive racing season.

Meanwhile, upgrades carried out during 2015 - including a new bar, restaurant, and owners and trainers Lounge - will be finished for Leopardstown's Christmas festival.

Commenting on the planned development, Chief executive Pat Keogh said "our vision is to create a facility in Leopardstown that will showcase the best that Irish racing has to offer.

"When we complete the development being announced today, we will have a facility in Dublin that will compare very favourably with the best national and international sports venues".
