Manchester United complete signing of Sergio Romero

The recruitment drive at Manchester United shows no signs of stopping, after their latest signing Sergio Romero was unveiled by the club.

The Argentine goalkeeper has been drafted in amid speculation that one of Manchester United's goalkeepers will be leaving the club this summer.

"He is a very good choice," Van Gaal said.

"He is the Argentinian goalkeeper. He has international experience.

"I saw him in the World Cup because he stopped our penalties very good and that is why were not in the final, but I remember him especially from my former time and I know what he can do.

"He is a very dominating goalkeeper. His stature is also tall and he gives a lot of confidence to the players.

"Of course, he has to learn English because that is also a problem always with a foreigner. He is very good with his feet so he fits in our profile. I have a lot of confidence that he can fulfill what we are expecting."

The Dutchman has previous experience working with Romero, when the Argentine signed for AZ Alkmaar in 2007.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have been long time admirers of David de Gea and the arrival of 28-year-old is certain to fuel rumours that the current United number 1 is on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu.

But Ed Woodward and Louis van Gaal are determined to hold out for a deal that would see Madrid defender Sergio Ramos come to the club as well as a considerable fee.

There also remains some uncertainty surrounding the future of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes at the club.

Valdes was signed by the club and only made a handful of appearances for the United, an understudy for his younger Spanish counterpart.

There had been a public disagreement between van Gaal and Valdes after the goalkeeper was asked to play with the U21 side to gain playing time.

It remains unclear which goalkeeper will lead United into the 2015/16 season, but there are now certainly a number of options now for the the club to choose from.
