Morning Bulletin: Early headlines from the sports desk

CRICKET

India are cruising in their pursuit of Ireland's target of 260 in their latest World Cup Pool B match in Hamilton.

A short time ago, India were 234 for 2 with plenty of overs to spare.

Ireland need a win either today or against Pakistan on Sunday if they're to reach the quarter-finals.

Lose, and they'll be relying on a favour from the UAE against the West Indies.

RACING

The eyes of the racing world turn to Prestbury Park today, and the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.

There's a strong Irish challenge again this year, with Willie Mullins, Jessica Harrington and Noel Meade all saddling strong contenders on the opening day.

The Stan James Champion Hurdle (3:20pm) is the feature race of the afternoon, with the Mullins-trained pair of Hurricane Fly and Faugheen taking-on Harrington's defending champion, Jezki.

But the opening race of this year's festival, the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle will get things under way at half-past one.

SOCCER

Holders Arsenal were handed what looks the easier draw in this season's FA Cup semi-finals, following last night's 2-1 defeat of Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Nacho Monreal and former United striker Danny Welbeck got the Gunners' goals to set up a Wembley date with either Bradford or Reading.

United also had Angel Di Maria sent off after picking up two yellow cards - the second of which came for grabbing referee Michael Oliver.

Should Liverpool come through their replay with Blackburn, they'll face Aston Villa in the last four.

The first two quarter-finalists of this season's Champions League will be decided tonight (7.45).

Real Madrid start with a 2-0 first-leg lead over Schalke in their last-16 tie.

And it's tied 1-1 between FC Porto and FC Basel - but the Portuguese side have home advantage for tonight's second-leg.

In the Sky Bet Championship, Reading will host Brighton (8.0).

Cabinteely's 100-per-cent start to life as a League club continued with a 1-0 win away to UCD in the first round of the EA Sports Cup last night.

Meanwhile, Galway United beat Finn Harps 3-2 at Eamon Deacy Park

There are six more ties tonight, with perhaps the pick of those seeing Drogheda United play host to Shelbourne.

Elsewhere, Inverness face Raith Rovers in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.
