Mourinho couldn't handle pressure of Real Madrid, claims Calderon

Former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon has claimed Jose Mourinho could not handle the pressure of managing at the Bernabeu.

“To be a manager of Real Madrid is really, really difficult,” Calderon told the BBC.

“See what happened to Mourinho. He is someone who is used to coping with pressure and he couldn’t.”

Mourinho managed the Bernabeu giants from 2010-13, winning the league title in 2012 with a record 100 points. Mourinho also won the 2011 Copa Del-Rey.

European success evaded Mourinho however, as Real reached the semi-finals of the Champions League each year he was in charge.

"When Mourinho left, things were in a really bad situation," said Calderon.

"He had to leave the club after three years of a lot of problems, a lot of confrontations."

Calderon praised the work of Mourinho’s successor, Carlo Ancelotti, who led Madrid to their 10th European Cup last year.

"To be here more than two, three years is really a big task," Calderon said.

"I think he has done a very good job, not only because he won the Champions League but because things are calm, relaxed and everything is smooth.”
