Munster definitely more direct and less robotic than under Penney - Trevor Hogan

Ex-Ireland lock Trevor Hogan feels Anthony Foley's Munster side are more direct and less "robotic" than they were last season under Rob Penney.

The former Leinster and Munster second row joined us on Off The Ball tonight to review the final week of the Guinness Pro 12 and gave his take on the changes to Munster's attack this season.

"I don't know if the word is more expansive now, I think they're definitely more direct," he said.

"They're running hard and straight and they're not looking first all the time to get the ball wide into the wider channels. They're looking to run hard and direct and even if they're taking contact, that's no problem. They're just looking to dominate in that area of the field and not be as robotic as under Rob Penney where they were automatically looking to get it wide."

Trevor also described Conor Murray as the main fulcrum going forward and that the maul is their strongest asset at present.

"Now everything is going through Conor Murray and why not? Foley is just being really practical. You've probably got the best 9 in the Northern Hemisphere and you've got to use him."
