Padraig Harrington: "It was a bit of a mess all the way through the front nine"

The Off the Ball team are based in Portstewart for the duration of the Irish Open as the European Tour's top players battle it out for a multi-million Euro prize fund.

Padraig Harrington carded a mixed round of 71 to leave him on eight-under after three rounds.

He joined Saturday's Off the Ball to discuss his round and said: "You know, I struggled early on in the round - bogied the first two holes, and was lucky to do that, and it was a bit of a mess all the way through the front nine.

"I did my utmost to shoot level par for nine holes and then I played quite nicely on the back nine. But yeah, I do feel a little bit disappointed. I could have been two/three shots better today but there was no '64' in my round today to put it like that.

"I don't read too much into one individual putt missed during the week (the missed putt on 18). Surely it can't make too much difference in the overall scheme of things. I just probably, six shots back, needed to get going quickly today and maybe I was a bit aggressive off the first hole and I hit the gorse and it certainly seemed like I struggled from there on," he added.

Looking ahead he's got a hectic schedule planned which includes the last two majors of the year. "I'm playing a lot of golf. I play next week in Scotland, then I play the Open. I've a few days off after that...then I go to play the PGA Championship.

"It's a bit of a long shot that I get into the FedEx. Hopefully I'll have played well enough in one of those events and a big finish should get me across the line."

Harrington went on to discuss his plans for The Open and Shane Lowry and Michale Hoey also dropped by the Newstalk lounge. Those interviews can be heard in full here:
