"People don't want to hurt him, he's a good man" - Vincent Hogan on Wenger's fading goodwill

Another day, another Arsenal defeat, and Arsene Wenger's hold over his position at the club slips away slightly further.

Before Arsenal crashed to a 2-1 away loss to Brighton, Joe Molloy was joined by the Irish Independent's Vincent Hogan and Dan McDonnell for the Sunday Paper review, and both agreed it was time for the Frenchman's time at the club to end.

However, despite the string of poor performances over the last two seasons, Hogan believes that some of the blame lies away from Wenger and at the foot of the people in charge behind the scenes.

"The real story of Arsenal in my view is the business things. The way they let the Sanchez contract run down, the way they let the Ozil contract run down. Ozil is now on 350 grand a week. I look at Mesut Ozil, and he's a brilliantly technical player, but if someone brushes against him he's looking for a free, and this is the Premier League".

"I think there's more people than Wenger in the club that have serious questions to answer, but he's obviously the one feeling the heat".

Despite no official line on the matter, the general consensus is that the 68-year-old will leave the club this summer, though Hogan believes he might have other ideas about that, a move that could see him tarnish the legacy he's built over his 22 year reign.

"A lot of his quotes are suggesting that he may try to hang on for another year".

"People don't want to hurt him, and I think that's very, very true. People don't want to hurt him, he's a good man, but he may wear out that sense of conscience and sympathy towards him if he hangs tough here".
