Pep Guardiola has doubts over the fitness of Bastian Schweinsteiger

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has cast doubt over the fitness of World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger, claiming that he hasn't been fully fit in three years.

The 31-year-old was seen as a coup by football fans after he completed his £12m move to Manchester United this summer, but Guardiola has explained that there may be a reason why he was let go from the German club.

"He is a top, top player. Unfortunately, he has had some problems with injuries in the past two years and he was not always 100 per cent fit. He is going to play really good [at United]. I really hope that is going to happen,” said the former Barcelona manager.

"When he does not have injury problems, I am completely convinced he will do very well at Manchester United."

Despite making only 15 starts last season, Schweinsteiger and co still managed to claim a third consecutive Bundesliga title and left this summer after 16 ears with the club.

Guardiola also told reporters that he wasn't surprised to Louis van Gaal has expressed an interest in bringing a player from his former club into the squad.

“He (Pedro) is one of the best players you can imagine,” Guardiola stated.

“He’s won the European Cup, the Champions League and played millions of games for Barcelona. He can play in any team in the world, but I don’t know the situation right now. He’s a great player.”
