Peter Lawrie unable to retain Tour card after missed cut in Portugal

Peter Lawrie looks to have missed out on retaining his European Tour card after missing the cut yesterday at the Portugal Masters.

Lawrie shot a second round 72 to miss the cut mark (one under par) and will now have to rely on an unlikely sponsors invitation to next week's Hong Kong Open.

Should the Castleknock man receive an invitation he would then have to earn enough money to place him in the top 110 in the Race to Dubai (R2D) standings.

This remains unlikely, with the most realistic option being that the 41-year-old heads for Qualifying School in Spain next month.

Meanwhile there was more positive scores for the rst of the Irish contingent in the field.

Greystones rookie Paul Dunne and made his third successive cut in a professional event, he sat 12 shots off the lead on two under par after the secound round.

Alongside Dunne is three time major winner, Padraig Harrington after a second round 70.

Kevin Phelan also made the cut mark, but needs a high place finish if he is to move from 126th in the R2D standings. After finishing on one under par, he's fallen back to two over.

Leading the Irish charge at the end of day two was Damien McGrane, who finished on three under par, but has since slipped back to one under par, 15 strokes off the lead.

Darren Clarke and Michael Hoey both missed the cut.
