Premier League Round-Up

It was derby day in the BPL with the two Manchester clubs meeting at Old Trafford, while the Tyne-Wear derby was the early kick off.

Liverpool 1-1 Southampton

In an entertaining game at Anfield, Liverpool were just minutes away from there first victory under Jurgen Klopp. A late Saido Mane goal denied the German his first win and killed the party in the Kop.

It was an open game of football with both sides pressing hard but carving out few chances in the first half, with Virgil van Dijk coming closest. The second half was a more open game and Liverpool finally got themselves ahed in the 76th minute when Christian Benteke emphatically headed home a superb James Milner cross.

It looked like they were on course for three points until Mane bundled home from close range with just two minutes left on the clock. Neither side could score a winner as mane got himself sent off with 60 seconds remaining.

The result leaves both sides on 14 points, with the Saints ahead on goal difference in 8th place.

Bournemouth 1-5 Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane found his scoring touch again as he bagged a hat-trick for himself at the Dean Court Stadium as spurs routed their hosts.

The Cherries got off to a brilliant start when Matt Ritchie nestled one home inside the first minute, but that was as good as it would get for Bournemouth. Kane leveled matters in the 9th minute before Moussa Dembele put Spurs infront after 17 minutes. Erik Lamela got in on the act on the half hour mark before Kane added his 2nd and 3rd in the second half.

The result leaves Spurs in 6th while the Cherries hover dangerously close to the relegation zone in 17th.

Sunderland 3-0 Newcastle

Newcastle somehow found themselves on the wrong end of a three nil defeat after they largely outclassed their fiercest rivals for the first half of the game. However, a controversial red card to Fabricio Coloccini changed the course of the game as Adam Johnson, Billy Jones and Steven Fletcher all got on the scoresheet.

Manchester Utd 0-0 Manchester City

One of the most eagerly anticipated derby games ended up being anti-climatic as neither side could muster much in attack, with this being a battle of the defences.

Nicolas Otamendi was impressive for the Sky Blues while Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling held down the fort for United, in a game they looked the better team.
