Premier League Round-Up: Arsenal off to the Worst of Starts on Opening Weekend

Following yesterday's overdose of Premier League action, we were treated to three more games and seven goals including a lovely header from an Irishman today.

Newcastle and Southampton kicked off at St.James' Park along with Arsenal and West Ham United at the Emirates as a part of the early game package.

Graziano Pelle gave Southampton the lead in their game but an equaliser from Papiss Cisse and a debut goal for Georginio Wijnaldum either side of the half would put Newcastle in front in Steve McClaren's first competitive game as the manager of Newcastle United.

Shane Long came off the bench to score a header in the 79th minute that would level matters at 2-2. That is how the score would stay with both managers most likely content with a point.

Arsenal opened their season in the worst possible way as they fell to West Ham United and Slaven Bilic at home on a scoreline of 0-2. Cheikhou Kouyate opened the scoring for the visitors in the first half to a shellshocked home crowd.

Mauro Zarate sealed matters when he scored on 57 minutes as Arsenal struggled to make things happen in the final third of the field. The biggest story of the day was possibly Reece Oxford's debut and his display. The 16 year old was calm, confident and assured in everything he did on the field.

Stoke hosted Liverpool in the four o'clock kickoff and it was a less than inspiring affair. It would take a spectacular 30 yard effort from Philippe Coutinho to light the game up with five minutes to go. For all of Liverpool's action in the transfer market it was one of their most consistent performers from last year who would come to the rescue.
