Pro 12 Round-Up: Clean sweep for the Irish Provinces as Connacht go top

Connacht 33-19 Treviso

Connacht moved into top spot of the Pro12 after another classy performance on Friday evening, where they dismissed the challenge of Treviso at the Sportsground.

Its a fifth consecutive win for the Westerners, the first time they have done so since 2002, and a try from the returning Robbie Henshaw was the cherry on top.

In form winger Matt Healy and Kiwi Hooker Tom McCartney also touched down, while Craig Ronaldson was in imperious form with the boot.

In fairness, Treviso put in a good showing following their poor recent form and only trailed 9-5 at the break thanks to Jayden Hayward's first try.

However, Connacht cut loose in the second half as Henshaw, who was wearing the 15 jersey, crossed for the first before Hayward responded, but McCartney crashed over on 51 minutes and then Healy showed his pace for the third to leave the result beyond doubt.

Treviso struck back through  Eduardo Gori late-on, but it was too little too late.

Leinster 19-15 Scarlets

Ian Madigan kicked 14 points for Leinster as they consigned Scarlets to their first loss of the season at the RDS on Friday evening, with Mike Ross getting his first ever PRO12 try.

Ross and Madigan were two amongst a host of returning internationals, with Jamie Heaslip, Sean O'Brien and Rob Kearney restored to the first XV.

Scarlets were much the better side in the opening 40', with Hadleigh Parks and Gareth Owen giving the Welsh side a deserved 15-9 half time lead.

After being on the back foot for most of the game Leinster came out stronger in the second half and got their reward when Ross crashed over from the back of a maul. Madigan converted to give his side the lead, one they did not relinquish.

Edinburgh 14-16 Munster

Munster just about came away from Murrayfield with the four points after some late dramatics in yesterday evenings Pro12 game.

After huffing and puffing to a winning position, all Munster had to do was win a scrum and kick the ball dead as the clock clicked into the red. Conor Murray fed into the scrum and the red heave pushed a tired Edinburgh off the ball, leaving the ball at CJ Stander's feet.

The now Irish eligible South African picked and found himself in space as he charged to the line, but was held up just short before Murray went to spin one wide in the hopes of adding gloss to the scoreline but his pass was picked off and suddenly Munster were scrambling back in defence.

Eventually, the Scottish side went for the drop goal through Sam Hidalgo-Clyne just in front of the Munster sticks, but Jordan Coughlan got there to block the effort and give Munster the win.

They were late dramatics to a fairly poor affair as a John Ryan try and three Ian Keatley penalties were enough to get over the Edinburgh challenge, despite seeing Francis Sailli sent to the bin when they were trailing after William Helu's try just after half-time.

Hidalgo-Clyne also kicked three penalties but his missed conversion from Helu's try proved to be the difference at the end of 80 minutes.

Newport Gwent Dragons 12-19 Ulster

Paul Marshall grabbed the only try of the game as Ulster eked out a win in Wales on Sunday to move them into fifth, level on points with Glasgow Warriors.

The Dragons, who were unbeaten at home prior to today, opened up a nine point lead thanks to the boot of Dorian Jones before Paddy Jackson responded with a penalty of his own.

Jackson made it 9-6 before the break in a first half hat saw little excitement and Stuart McCloskey sin binned, but the second 40' saw an improvement.

Dragons skipper  Rynard Landman was binned and then Marshall struck, sniping over from close range. After that, it turned back into a kicking contest that Jackson won out.

Rory Best and Ruan Pienaar both returned with the Irish hooker picking up a yellow for his troubles, but it had little effect on the result as  Ulster held out.

Cardiff 30-35 Glasgow Warriors

Finn Russell inspired Glasgow to victory, pulling the strings from out-half, consigning Cardiff to a sixth defeat in a row in yesterday's game at the Cardiff Arms Park.

Leone Nakawara, fresh from an outstanding World Cup with Fiji, was excellent and scored one of four Glasgow trys, with Taqele Naiyaravoro, Jonny Gray and Ryan Grant all touching down.

Cardiff managed two trys with Gavin Evans touching down and the other being a penalty try. Rhys Patchell kicked six penalties and made a fantastic try saving tackle on Russell to keep his side in it, but it was all in vain as Warriors left with the bonus point victory.

Ospreys 36-3 Zebre

Ospreys ran in six trys as they brought Zebre crashing back down to earth following their recent run of good form in Swansea yesterday.

The Welsh outfit welcomed back some of their World Cup stars and one of them, Justin Tipuric, picked up the Man of the match award.

The trys came from Jonathan Spratt, Sam Parry, Eli Walker, Josh Matavesi and Tipuric as Dan Biggar could only kick two conversions on his return to action.
