Pro 12 Round-up: Irish players offloading for fun while Connacht keep up early season form

It was another eventful round of action in the Pro 12 with Connacht, Leinster and Munster all picking up wins on the same weekend of the World Cup final, but don't worry if you have missed the action, we've got you covered!

Munster 32-28 Ulster

Munster claimed the bonus point win over Ulster in thrilling encounter at Thomond Park, in the seasons first inter-pro under lights on Friday.

In swirling wind and rain, just over 13,000 were in attendance to watch a nine try cracker with Irish World Cup players back in provincial action.

However, it was a player who missed out on a place in the squad who drew first blood, Craig Gilroy touching down early on to give the visitors the lead. Paddy Jackson missed the conversion in difficult conditions, and it didn't take long for Munster to get off the mark, Andrew Conway touching down after an initial Tomas O'Leary break. Keatley converted before Jackson struck a penalty to put the visitors in front, a lead they extended soon after when Gilroy touched down for his second.

Munster began to get into the swing of things and Robin Copeland combined with Simon Zebo and Keatley to get over before Gerhard Van Der Heever scooted over for their third. It didn't take long for Ulster to get another, Nick Williams crashing over from the back of a maul. Jackson hit the post with his conversion leaving the scores 19-18 in favour of the home side at the interval.

The breathless action continued into the second half as Jackson struck a drop goal before Keatley nudged over another penalty, keeping the game in the balance with momentum swinging one way and then another. Munster finally put some daylight between the sides when the TMO judged Denis Hurley's effort to be legal before getting a fifth through Zebo.

Ulster did earn a try bonus point after Dan Tuohy scored, but they couldn't cross again and had to be content with coming away with two bonus points.

Benetton Treviso 3-27 Leinster

Leinster's early season brand of entertaining rugby continued on Sunday as they ran in four trys against a sub-par Treviso side in Italy.

Its a 13th consecutive Pro12 defeat for Treviso as Jack McGrath's early try set Leinster on their way at the Stadio Monigo, with Johnny Sexton pulling the strings at 10 following his two-year spell in Paris.

The Irish province welcomed back a large number of their World Cup contingent, including Tadhg Furlong, Sean Cronin, Luke Fitzgerald and Sexton.

Jack McGrath got over early on for the first of the day, before Isa Nasewa profited from Dave Kearney's fielding skills as he ghosted over for the second just before the break.

Sexton was also binned for cynical play 10 minutes into the game but Treviso couldn't make it count on the scoreboard.

Leinster were determined to run the ball from deep in the second half, with a lot of their moves forming from within their own 22', and offloads being attempted and completed throughout the course of the game.

In the build up to Jack Conan's try, Noel Reid did his best Sonny Bill impression with a backdoor offload for Jordi Murphy, who showed equally deft hands to feed Nasewa before the Fijian drew the full back and sent the Leinster 8 over at a canter.

At this stage the Eastern province were cruising and it was only a matter of time before the bonus point try came, and it just after the hour mark.

Ludovico Nitoglia was sin binned for a deliberate knock-on and just moments later Ben Te'o cut through a tame Treviso defensive effort to stroll in under the posts for a well deserved score.

Fergus McFadden kept his kicking duties and converted for the final score of the game.

Connacht 14-9 Edinburgh

Connacht squeezed past a tough Edinburgh challenge at the Sportsground with Tiernan O'Halloran's try the difference at the end of 80 minutes.

The result keeps up the Westerners good run of form that sees them second in the table behind Scarlets, having just lost one game this season.

Its Edinburgh's second defeat of the season as they failed to find a way to break down Connacht's resilient defence, kicking only three penalties for their efforts.

Jack Carty got Connacht off the mark with a penalty and it became 8-0 just two minutes later when Matt Healy's broke the line on halfway and he sent O'Halloran racing for the line.

Penalties from Sam Hidalgo-Clyne and Blair Kinghorn kept the Scots in touch at the break, but Carty added two more penalties in the second half to Hidalgo-Clyne's one, giving Connacht a comfortable lead as they looked the more impressive outfit in the closing stages.

Carty did miss two more penalty attempts while Edinburgh lock Fraser McKenzie was binned late on, as the Scottish side went in hunt of a score that never came.

Other Results:

Glasgow 31-19 Ospreys

Scarlets 25-15 Dragons

Zebre 26-15 Cardiff
