Robbie Brady undergoes successful knee surgery

Burnley manager Sean Dyche says it's too soon to put a timeline on Robbie Brady's recovery.

The Republic of Ireland international has undergone surgery on a knee injury suffered in their recent 1-0 loss to Leicester in the Premier League.

Early reports indicate the defender could be out of action for the rest of the season, but Dyche says it is too soon to predict when Brady will return:

“We’ll have to wait and see with that, all I know is the operation went well. They’re very pleased with that. He’s recovering at the moment it’s too early to worry about the longer term view, we’ll see how we go with it.”

The club expect Brady to face a long rehabilitation with initial reports stating it could be between 4-6 months after tearing his patellar tendon.

Dyche expects the mental recovery from a long term injury to be as tough as the physical recovery:

“When you get an injury it’s important that the mentality is firm, if there is a down period it’s for a reason it’s not just like ‘oh go and do what you want for a few weeks’.

“I can assure you there’ll be an actual professional reason why that will help and enhance the ongoing recovery, we’ve been unlucky with serious knee injuries, soft tissue injuries we’ve done well and I’m very pleased with the medical team and the sports science team

“With the big injuries we’ve been unfortunate over the year, that’s the way it goes. Another random injury, if you saw the incident it’s a freak chance of that kind of injury, that’s how they happen sometimes with those freak twists and turns of the body.”
