Rodgers puts his foot down over Sterling

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says Raheem Sterling wil not be sold in the summer.

Talks on a new deal for the England winger have broken down, which means that the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea have now been linked with a move for the player at the end of the season.

But Sterling is contracted to the club until the summer of 2017 and Rodgers says the club will not be forced into selling against their will.

"Liverpool are one of the superpowers of football and if the owners don't want to sell, they don't have to," said Rodgers, adding that the club had not given the 20-year-old to speak to the BBC.

"There was no permission from us. He will learn. We all make mistakes in life, especially when we are young."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also said he had no intention of "interfering" in stories about the player's future.
