Ronald Koeman has addressed his sacking from Everton

Ronald Koeman has broken his silence following his sacking.

The Dutchman paid the price for the club's current plight. They've won just two games of their nine Premier League games this season.

They've shipped 18 goals in that time, leaving them in the bottom three on goal difference.

The club have confirmed that David Unsworth is taking temporary charge of the first team following the sacking of Ronald Koeman.

The club's under-23s boss is also one of the favourites to become the new permanent manager - as is Burnley's Sean Dyche.

Unsworth will take control of tomorrow's League Cup last-16 tie at Chelsea. He's the third Premier League manager to lose his job this season.

Frank De Boer was axed by Crystal Palace before Craig Shakespeare was booted out of Leicester City.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is thought to be the club's top target to replace Koeman, former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel has also been linked with the job.

Reports indicate the club are also eager to try and convince Carlo Ancelotti to undertake the Everton project.

Koeman's released a short statement saying he's "disappointed" to have lost his job - but grateful for the opportunity to manage Everton.

“I would like to place on record my thanks to the players and staff for all their work and commitment during my 16 months as Everton manager,” Koeman wrote on Twitter.

“I would like to thank Bill Kenwright, Farhad Moshiri and the Everton Board for the opportunity to have managed a great club, and to the fans as well for their passionate support for the club.

“Naturally I am disappointed at this moment but I wish the team good luck in the future.”
