Royal Portrush confirmed to host the 2019 Open Championship

After a 68 year wait, The Open is to return to Royal Portrush in 2019.

The news was confirmed this morning, the golf's oldest major is to return to the County Antrim venue for only the second time in it's history. Englishman Max Faulkner won that tournament for his only major win. Portrush's own Fred Daly finished in a tie for fourth at the event.

The event will take place from 18-22 July, and has come on the back of a successful Irish Open at the Dunluce course in 2012, which was won by Jamie Donaldson.

The Senior British Open has been held in the Antrim venue on six occasions, originally from 1995-1999 and again in 2004. Christy O'Connor Jr won the event in 1999.

Royal Portrush's return to The Open rota means that the 2019 hosting should not be a one off and the tournament should return to the Antrim links on a regular basis. Whilst further dates have not been confirmed, it wont be another 68 year wait.
