Southampton came from a goal down to run out 3-1 winners against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this evening.
Jose Mourinho was hoping to put a disappointing result in midweek behind him, but his side were once again made to pay for sloppy defending and lacked sharpness as Southampton ripped them open on the counter attack time and again.
A contentious second half decision inspired a seven minute long rant on Sky Sports television after the game, when the Portugese manager told referees and officials to be honest when giving their decisions.
"When you are so down, I think it is time to be a little bit honest" he said after the game.
"I want to say clearly: the referees are afraid to give decisions for Chelsea.
"With the score at 1-1 we [were not given] a huge penalty and a penalty is a crucial moment in the game. If the FA want to punish me they can punish me, they don't punish other managers.
"But I want to say it again: referees are afraid to give decisions for Chelsea."
In reality, the result was a fair reflection on Chelsea's performance as a whole.
Inside the opening 10 minutes, Willian gave the home side the lead with a well struck free kick that sailed in off the post.
They pressed higher up the pitch and with a little bit more urgency, Southampton hadn't quite found their feet after the early goal.
But slowly, Ronald Koeman's side grew into the game, Sadio Mane making a nuisance of himself playing off the lone frontman Graziano Pelle.
Pelle, who was rather anonymous for the majority of the first half, was the target man turned creator when he held off Ivanovic to chest the ball down to Steven Davies who's low half volley nestled in the bottom left hand corner of the Chelsea net.
After the restart it was more of the same, both sides imposing their style of play on the game: Chelsea trying to control the possession and Southampton happy to sit back and break with pace up the pitch.
Falcao was adjudged to have dived under the challenge Saints' 'keeper Maarten Stekelenburg and was given a yellow card for his trouble.
Three minutes later, Pelle put Mane clean through on goal and the Senegalese international made no mistake.
At this stage Chelsea looked more ragged than rampant and their efforts to go in search of an equaliser left them exposed which the Southampton forward line punished once again.
Pelle was fed the ball on the right hand side of the box and struck low to wrap up the points and condemn Chelsea to another defeat of the season.
The defeat means it's Chelsea's worst start to a season in 35 years and Mourinho sounded almost defiant afterwards when he said quite simply: "If they sack me, they sack the greatest manager the lcub has ever had."
