Shamrock Rovers look to close the gap on Dundalk tonight

This weekend’s SSE Airtricity League programme stretches across the Bank Holiday weekend with matches on Friday and Saturday night and also Monday afternoon. The Premier Division matches are the final series of games in the first round while the First Division is already into the second series of games in their second round of fixtures.

On Friday night, unbeaten Shamrock Rovers have an opportunity to leapfrog Cork City into second place, for a couple of days at least, when they face a Drogheda United side that has now gone eight games without a win.

Galway United, fresh from their impressive 5-0 win away to Bray Wanderers last week, will be looking to go two games unbeaten for the first time this season when they face a St Patrick’s Athletic that is currently on a seven game unbeaten run.

There are three First Division games on Friday evening with leaders Finn Harps travelling to Stradbrook to face a Cabinteely side still smarting from last week’s 7-0 defeat at the hands of second place Wexford Youths, who face Waterford on Friday at the RSC in a South East derby.

Shelbourne host UCD in the Division’s other Friday night game while on Saturday, Cobh Ramblers, unbeaten in their last four games, meet Athlone Town.

In the Premier Division on Saturday, Longford Town and Derry City, who are both on 12 points, meet at City Calling Stadium.

Sligo Rovers will be hoping to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone when they meet bottom side Limerick who are currently without a win this season.

The top two in the Premier Division are in action on Monday afternoon in front of the Setanta Ireland cameras with leaders Dundalk meeting Bray Wanderers in Oriel Park at 3pm and that will be followed by 5.10pm with the meeting of fourth place Bohemians and second place Cork City at Dalymount Park.
