Shane Lowry: "I had everything from a two to a seven on my scorecard today"

The Off the Ball team are based in Portstewart for the duration of the Irish Open as the European Tour's top players battle it out for a multi-million Euro prize fund.

Shane Lowry dropped by the Newstalk lounge after his third round on Saturday when he posted a score of 71 to leave him on six-under for the tournament.

"I had everything from a two to a seven on my scorecard today," he said, adding: "So it's a bit disappointing. I played pretty good but then just nine through thirteen I played in about four over par so it's pretty disappointing but yeah, my game was still pretty good.

"I just hit a couple of bad drives and I let nine get to me. I made a bad bogey from 100 yards and I let that get to me. That kind of continued on. I made a bad bogey at 10 but it was my own fault, my own mistakes but what can I do?

"I missed a seven-footer on eight to go to nine-under for the tournament so I was really feeling like I was getting into the business end of things. You know, I hit a good tee-shot down nine and just in the left semi-rough, pulled my second shot over the green and it was just mildly disappointing.

"I hit a decent shot down ten and I went down and had a bad lie in the rough but sure listen, what can you do? That's golf, unfortunately.

"I should have been more patient. I was probably a bit too aggressive for my second shot on nine. The pin was up the back and if you go over the back of the green, it's pretty dead.

"You know, you've got chances on the back nine. Ten is a chance, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen's a chance and eighteen's a chance today because it's down wind. So I should have been more patient - it's my own fault."

Looking ahead to his preparation for the British Open later this month, he said: "Well I'm not actually playing next week (the Scottish Open) so I'm at home and I'll play a little bit of links golf...I might get out for a game in maybe Portmarnock just to keep a bit of links golf going and get ready for Birkdale."
