Sherwood backs Grealish decision to keep Ireland and England waiting

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has backed Jack Grealish's decision to turn down an invite to join the Ireland squad.

The 19-year-old has told Ireland manager Martin O'Neill that he is not ready to commit to his international future after declining an invite to be part of the Ireland squad for the upcoming games against England and Scotland.

Sherwood believes that Grealish was right to delay making a decision on his international career, but the Villa boss has insisted that the teenager has not ruled out the possibility of playing for Ireland in the future and will make a decision at the end of the season.

"I don’t think Jack didn’t want to play for Ireland, I don’t think he didn’t want to play for England or Brazil either. In that case was he was always going to decide on his international future at the end of this season," he said.

Sherwood also says that he will not be offering any advice on what Grealish should do, saying that it is a decision for the player and his family.

"It’s only Jack and his family who can make that [decision]. If he wants guidance from me, unfortunately I can’t give it him. Jack has to know who he wants to represent."
