Stephen Roche: "The Tour will go right down to the wire"

Former Tour de France champion Stephen Roche thinks that the competition will go all the way down to the wire and spoke at length about the controversy surrounding Team Sky's Chris Froome.

Roche, who claimed the coveted title in 1987, expects the final stages to be a lot closer than people think.

"I don't believe it when people say that the Tour is done and dusted, I think it'll g all the way down to the wire" he said.

"Quintana is showing a little bit more form and Nibali who wants to pick up third lace onthe podium as well."

The 55-year-old also commented on the controversy surrounding Team Sky and the amount of attention Froome has garnered from the media.

"Well first of all, it's the journalists who create the suspicion. If they reported on what they see rather than sensationalising the story, the world of cycling a better place" he noted.

"The fans shouldn't have to come to conclusions based on unfounded information. There's been so much speculation going on, people can't remember where the problem started."
