Steven Reid lifts the lid on Crystal Palace's resurgence

When ex-Ireland midfielder Steven Reid first came in as a first team coach early in the season, Crystal Palace were in dire straits.

No wins under the sacked Frank de Boer and that had morphed into a slow start under replacement manager Roy Hodgson, who had brought Reid in.

Slowly but surely though, the South London club have hauled themselves back into contention and out of the Premier League relegation zone, with the 3-0 win at in form Leicester City on Saturday lunchtime especially impressive.

Reid joined Kevin Kilbane and Joe Molloy on the Football Show to tell us about some of the factors that have aided Palace to overcome a poor start to the season in recent weeks.

"Obviously Roy's renowned for his defensive shape and teams being difficult to beat," said Reid.

"I was lucky enough to be in the West Brom team and the squad that he managed so I know exactly how he works and he wants. But on the other side of that defensive shape, when we're going forward at the moment, we've got such an attacking threat with Zaha, with Townsend, with Loftus-Cheek, with Christian Benteke through the middle as well is something we probably didn't have as well organised as we were when we were at West Brom together. We didn't have the kind of attacking threat that we've got now at Crystal Palace."

He also pointed out that unlike earlier in their spell in charge, Palace capitalised on periods of domination by getting goals at the right time in recent games.

"It was a really fantastic display and one that's been coming for a few weeks," he added.

Benteke was at the centre of the spotlight over a penalty incident when he usurped the designated taker and missed a spot kick the previous week, but shone on Saturday.

"I think that fired him up even more which was really good to see," said Reid of the effect the penalty incident had in bouncing back to goalscoring form.

"He seemed up for it all week. He obviously came out and apologised for it and it was dealt with at the training ground and I just think that fired up his belly a little bit."
