Suarez shines as Barcelona dismantle Real Madrid

Luis Suarez and Neymar both got scored as Barcelona ran out convincing 4-0 winners in the first El Clasico of the season.

It was a vintage performance from the Catalan giants and the result leaves them six points clear at the top of La Liga.

Lionel Messi featured in his first game in eight weeks after tearing knee ligaments in Barcelona's victory over Las Palmas at the end of September.

But the damage was inflicted mostly in the absence of the little Argentinian.

Suarez assumed the role of chief tormenter as he heaped even more pressure on an under-fire Rafa Benitez during the manager's first taste of the fixture.

The visitors got off to a good start, Sergi Roberto teeing up the Uruguayan, who slotted the ball home into the far corner with the outside of his foot. With just 11 minutes on the clock, this certainly wasn't part of the Madrid plan.

Suarez's 14th goal of the season and his 11th in the as many games as Barcelona have been without Lionel Messi.

Neymar doubled the advantage five minutes before half time, when Suarez dispossessed Luka Modric and laid the ball off to Andres Iniesta.

The Spaniard found Neymar tearing forward and in his recent vein of form, Neymar found the net with a cool finish. Madrid out of ideas and outclassed.

After the break, the story was really no different.

Iniesta was playmaker turned goalscorer for Barcelona's third, an incisive breakaway allowing Suarez to set up the midfielder.

It would be the first goal scored by neither Neymar or Suarez in an astonishing 20 goals.

The introduction of Messi, in truth, made little or no difference to the outlook of the game. Barcelona were confident of the result and that was clear as they continued the attacking wave.

Suarez rounded off the scoring in the 74th minute, lifting the ball over Keylor Navas, and the icing on the cake came six minutes from time.

Isco, clearly frustrated by the team's performance, hacked wildly at Neymar and was dismissed for violent conduct. But the damage was done, the blows had already been landed and the humiliation was complete.

Fiorentino Perez will point to the manager's style and the fans will point to Perez. What happened tonight is somewhat unclear, but one thing remains certain. Something's got to change.
