Sunday Long Reads: What to watch after Making a Murderer, the fuss over 70mm film and Zidane as a manager

From sport to film and TV, there's plenty to choose from in this week's Long Reads.

Have you finished "Making A Murderer"? Here are seven more true-crime docs to get addicted to

The documentary series has been getting plenty of press in recent weeks since it premiered on Netflix, and even spawned a petition that the White House responded to after it got over 130,000 signatures.

For those out there who sped through the ten-episode documentary and aren't entirely sure what to do with the free-time, here's a list of seven more true-crime documentaries that are as gripping, if not even more so, than Making A Murderer.

Go to the pre-season games! Your inner GAA snob will thank you for it

No one is out of the Championship. No one has been relegated. If your team does lose it doesn’t matter as a thousand excuses are readily available to explain a defeat in a competition that doesn’t matter anyway. Those are just some of the reasons Oisin Langan loves this time of year.

While the structure is all wrong and requires urgent change, at this time of the year, we can put those thoughts to one side as we’re just glad to get out to watch our counties come to life in pre-season as the Christmas tree discolours before being removed, like the unwanted eye sore the once beautiful green ornament has become.

Why is there such a fuss over The Hateful Eight and 70mm film?

Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight was finally released in Irish cinemas this week - well, some of them at least.

An already tumultuous launch for the film - including a very high profile online leak - took a surprising turn after a number of major cinema chains in the UK & Ireland announced they would not be showing the film due to a dispute with the film's distributor.

The dispute, at least in part, revolves around a handful of cinemas in London's West End, where only one theatre has been given the opportunity to screen the film's 70mm version - Tarantino's preferred version.

What do we really know about Zidane's managerial style as he settles into life at Real Madrid?

If you've ever read Barca: The Making of the Greatest Team In The World by Off The Ball's European football correspondent Graham Hunter, it not only gives you insight but also a bit of hindsight.

Many of the ideas that Pep Guardiola brought to Barcelona between 2008 and 2012 were first given room to breathe when he was in charge of the Catalan club's B team, where he was in charge from 2007 until his promotion to the first team.

Similarly, ahead of taking over the main job at one of the biggest clubs in the world, Zinedine Zidane has been in charge of Real Madrid's Castilla side, their 'B' team, so does what he did in his time there say anything about what he will be like as a manager?

When is it out here? The case for international release dates

You may have heard of Spotlight, a film telling the story of the Boston Globe expose on priests who abused children and were protected by the Catholic Church.

If you are into boxing, then Creed will almost certainly be on your radar. Lenny Abrahamson's Room is the hot Irish film from this year and The Revenant is already doing the rounds.

Although you have heard quite a lot about them at this stage, the chances are you may be waiting a significant amount of time to actually catch them on the big screen. Why? Because of staggered international release dates globally.
