Team Ireland landed back on home soil this morning after a hugely successful 2015 Special Olympics.
The team won a total of 82 medals; 26 Gold, 28 Silver and 28 Bronze as well as 41 placement ribbons.
Speaking on The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk this morning, reporter Henry McKean described the atmosphere in terminal two at Dublin Airport.
"Over 1,000 friends and family showed up to greet them as well as Paschal Donohoe TD and cabin crew" he said.
Friends and family travelled from all over the country to welcome the triumphant athletes home and described just how proud they were of the competitors.
"We're here to congratulate Anne Hoye who won a silver medal in bocce and we're all so proud of her" said Louth native, Maggie Wilton.
"It was brilliant stuff, we're all so, so proud of her."
Ireland has a deep connection with the Special Olympics since hosting it in 2003 and their efforts were well documented throughout the tournament, receiving the recognition that these sporting heroes deserve.
