"That performance wasn't good enough from Dublin": Jim Gavin admits that Dublin were lucky to survive All-Ireland final scare

Jim Gavin admits that Dublin were lucky to get another chance to defend their All-Ireland title, following a tense draw against Mayo today.

The replay is set for October 1st - the day of planned industrial action from Dublin Bus workers - but the Dublin manager insists that his side are fortunate to have that second chance.

Gavin says that their two first-half goals, courtesy of Mayo players Kevin McLoughlin and Colm Boyle, were lucky strokes in an otherwise poor display from Dublin.

Speaking to Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre, he said:

"We got two very lucky goals in the first half and didn't really deserve them the way we were playing so the score didn't really reflect our dominance in the game that's for sure. They came out in the second half and really put it up to us and closed the gap."

"I think when we look back at the expanse of the game, that performance wasn't good enough from Dublin. If there's any luck out there we got it."

"It's an All-Ireland final, they threw everything and anything at us and thankfully we're leaving today, not too disappointed of not coming away with the title. We're happy just to still be in the competition. We've been in this position before, we drew with them last year. We need to go hard at the performance and the standard of the players and hopefully we can take something to build on for two weeks time."
