The Boot Room: Stephen O'Donnell

Premier League Live with Sky Sports survived the Beast from the East yesterday, with all seven scheduled games going ahead as planned.

Our feature game came from Wembley, where Tottenham continued their great 2018 form by beating Huddersfield Town 2-0, to move five points clear of Chelsea in the race for Champions League football.

On the Boot Room, we spoke to a League of Ireland star who has experience in the red half of North London. Dundalk captain Stephen O’Donnell joined Philip Egan in studio to talk about his years in the youth set-up at Arsenal, at a time when the Gunners were at the peak of their powers under Arsene Wenger.

O’Donnell made the move over to London at the age of 15 in the early 2000s, having been spotted by Arsenal legend Liam Brady.

And while O’Donnell never featured for the Arsenal first team, he credits the footballing philosophy of the club with shaping his career, which has seen him win five League of Ireland titles, and two FAI Cups, as well as featuring heavily in Shamrock Rovers’ and Dundalk’s famous European runs.

He tells Philip Egan about getting to watch and learn from Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles every week, about how Sol Campbell was “the friendliest” first team player he met, and why he regrets moving to England at such a young age.
