The Kick Off: Dundalk prepare for BATE battle

GAELIC GAMES

The search for a new Offaly hurling manager has begun.

Last night, Brian Whelehan stepped down from the role in the wake of a winless Championship campaign.

A Leinster quarter final defeat to Laois was followed by a heavy qualifier loss to Clare.

A committee to appoint a successor, and to also review their Under-21 management structure has been put in place.

Meanwhile, GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail has called upon Cork supporters to take personal responsibility over the use of the Confederate flag.

The controversial banner was again seen at Semple Stadium for the Rebel hurlers qualifier win over Clare.

There have been renewed calls to ban the flag from GAA venues due to its association with the recent racist-motivated mass murder in South Carolina.

Ó Fearghail claims the association have no fixed stance on emblems, but says the Confederate flag is not one he is personally comfortable with.

Tipperary's side to face Limerick in tomorrow's Bord Gais Energy Munster U21 Hurling Championship semi-final contains four senior panelists.

Michael Breen, Ronan Maher, Barry Heffernan and Bill Maher have all been included in the starting fifteen.

TJ Connolly has also been able to call upon eight of last year's beaten semi finalists.

The first of this year's Munster finalists should be decided tonight, with Clare meeting Waterford at Cusack Park. Throw in is at 7.30pm.

CYCLING

Chris Froome is planning to undergo independent physiological testing after the Tour de France to prove he's no drugs cheat.

He's taken a commanding near three-minute lead in the race - after dominating stage 10.

Froome wants to show it's possible to achieve what he's doing as a clean athlete - after years of doping scandals in cycling. He says he has "nothing to hide".

The eleventh stage of the Tour de France takes the peloton deeper into the Pyrenees today, and includes a daunting hors category climb up the 2,000 metre Col du Tourmalet.

Dan Martin starts the day in 30th on general classification, Nicolas Roche is 59th and Sam Bennett is 178th.
