The Kick Off: UCD carry European hopes

SOCCER

Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny admits his side were second best in last nights draw with BATE Borisov in their second round qualifier second leg at Oriel park.

The game ended scoreless meaning the league Champions go out 2-1 on aggregate.

Celtic eased through to the next stage winning 4 -1 on the night away to Stjarnan of Iceland, running out 6-1 aggregate

Tonight in the Europa league UCD host Slovan Bratislava in the second qualifying second leg, they trail 1-0 from the first leg.

Shamrock Rovers are 2-0 down heading into their second leg with Oddballklub in Norway.

Both games kick off at 6.

Meanwhile, West Ham are in Malta to face Birkirkara. Kick off is at 7.45

CYCLING

Stage 18 of the Tour de France features more action in the Alps.

The riders will have to negotiate six categorised climbs today on the trek from Gap to the finish in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne - including the Hors Category climb to the top of the Col du Glandon.

Team Sky's Chris Froome remains in the yellow jersey with a lead of more than three minutes.

RUGBY

There's nothing but positive reaction to Joe Schmidt's contract extension as Ireland Head Coach.

The new deal takes him up until June 2017 with speculation suggesting he may be given the Lions coaching role while at some stage.

GOLF

The Omega European Masters tees-off this morning in Switzerland.

Damien McGrane, Peter Lawrie and Michael Hoey are the three Irish players in the field at Crans-sur-Sierre.

Meanwhile, the Senior Open Championship takes place at Sunningdale.

Des Smyth, Philip Walton and Ronan Rafferty will be among the Irish competitors.

Later this evening, Graeme McDowell will be in action in the opening round of the RBC Canadian Open.

CAMOGIE

It's been confirmed that the drawing of lots will decide weather Dublin or Clare will qualify for the quarter finals if the Banner beat Derry this weekend.

The Camogie association says these pre-determined procedures were agreed by Ard Chomhairle in November 2014.

RACING

There's racing this evening in Leopardstown and Limerick.

The Limerick jumps racecard goes to post at 5.35pm, with Leopardstown flats getting underway at 5.50pm.
