The new White Hart Lane is to host two NFL games per year over a ten year period it has been announced. The first games will be played in the new stadium when it opens in 2018.
The news comes as a surprise at Wembley have hosted games on an annual basis since 2007 to acclaim from fans and the NFL. This Autumn the venue is to host three games including the first ever divisional clash played in London between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins.
The NFL have already committed to playing three games next year in Wembley, with the Jacksonville Jaguars committing to playing a home game in London from 2013 to 2016.
Speaking after the announcement was made, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said; "With growing enthusiasm for the NFL in the United Kingdom, we are committed to hosting NFL games in world-class venues and are excited to partner with Tottenham Hotspur to play games at their future stadium. We share a vision and commitment to creating the best experience for our teams, fans and the local community.”
The deal does not bar any other venues in London or the UK from hosting games.
