'The only fight that makes sense to me is the McGregor fight:' Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather says that Conor McGregor is his most likely opponent, if he decides to make a return to boxing.

Following months of speculation, McGregor released a statement this week to TheMacLife.com, saying that he has signed a contract for the fight against Mayweather.

Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs), has not fought since retiring in 2015, while McGregor has been inactive since defeating Eddie Alvarez in November to claim the UFC Lightweight belt to become the first simultaneous dual-weight champion.

There were reports that McGregor 'relinquished' the Featherweight belt in the aftermath, but the Crumlin man maintains that he still has the strap.

Since stepping away from the octagon, McGregor has also welcomed his first baby with girlfriend Dee Devlin.

Mayweather was in London over the weekend, to watch Gervonta Davis defend his IBF world super featherweight title at the Copper Box Arena against Liam Walsh.

Speaking after his protege's third-round victory, Mayweather told Sky Sports:

"If I do fight, there's a 90 percent chance it's against Conor McGregor. When I get back to the US I'll call Al (Haymon, Mayweather's advisor) and see our next move. There's no rush.

"The only fight that makes sense to me is the McGregor fight. I guess I have one more obstacle that I have to get over.

"When we make a move, it's going to be huge. When Floyd Mayweather fights, it's history."

He added:

"We have to give the people what they want to see. The fans demand that fight; we have to give them what they want to see to make them happy.

"I think this year I'll be back at number one in Forbes' (list of athletes' net worth), in a matter of time.

"This kid (Davis) had me go to the gym, sparring a little bit. When it's time to do what I have to, I'll look tremendous and sharp."
