The roots of instability at struggling Sunderland

If Sunderland's derby victory over Newcastle on Easter weekend was meant to be the moment the Black Cats soared away from the bottom three, it has been anything but.

The 4-1 weekend defeat at home to Crystal Palace suggests major problems remain for current manager Dick Advocaat to try to solve.

Like the humiliating 4-0 loss to Aston Villa which cost Gus Poyet his job, fans streamed out of the Stadium in Light in their thousands.

To get a view of the fans' perspective of the situation, we spoke to Martyn McFadden of A Love Supreme, the Sunderland fanzine on Off The Ball tonight.

"I think it's just the way the club has been run and then obviously when we get in this situation they decide to sack the manager to try and get that new-manager bounce. But at the same time, we sacked O'Neill when we were in the bottom three, having lost to Man United. It feels as if we keep sacking the manager and then we just about stay up. Then the new manager comes in and he's got his own ideas. So there's no stability at the club."
