The top two clash in Turners Cross tonight in League of Ireland highlight

All eyes will be on Turner’s Cross on Friday evening as the top two in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division clash. Cork City trail leaders and champions Dundalk by two points and will go top if they inflict a first defeat of the season on Stephen Kenny’s side.

Elsewhere tonight, Bohemians make the trip north to Derry City looking to get back on the winning trail after a defeat and draw in their last two games while St Patrick’s Athletic, with only one win in four games, can go fourth if they beat Sligo Rovers at Richmond Park and Bohs lose in Derry.

At United Park, Drogheda United, without a win in their last seven games, will be hoping to build on last Monday’s excellent draw at St Pat’s when they play Longford Town, the team immediately above them in the table.

Third placed Shamrock Rovers don’t visit Limerick until tomorrow night while Bray Wanderers host Galway United the same evening the Carlisle Grounds.

In the First Division, all eight teams are in action tonight with leaders Finn Harps at home to Shelbourne and second place Wexford Youths at home to Cabinteely. Third place Athlone host bottom of the table Waterford United while UCD and Cobh Ramblers, who are both unbeaten in their last three games, meet at The UCD Bowl.

There are seven ties down for decision over the weekend in the Irish Daily Mail FAI Senior Cup with first game taking place this evening when Avondale United, who reached the quarter-finals last year, are away to local rivals St Mary’s.

On Saturday, FAI Umbro Intermediate Cup finalists Crumlin United are in Cork to face College Cortinthians while Cobh Wanderers host FAI Junior Cup semi-finalists Clonmel Celtic and Ulster Senior League champions Cockhill Celtic meet Munster Senior League side Casement Celtic who make the long journey from Cork to Donegal.

Sunday sees four games down for decision with three of them being all Leinster Senior League affairs as Glenville meet Firhouse Clover, St Mochta’s host Arklow Town and Killester United entertain Dunboyne. The other game sees Munster Senior League champions UCC, who are already through to the quarter-finals of the EA SPORTS Cup, meet FAI Junior Cup semi-finalists North End United at The Mardyke.

After three years of dominance by Cork City there will be a new name on the Dr Tony O’Neill Cup on Saturday when Derry City and St Patrick’s Athletic meet in the SSE Airtricity U19 League Final at Maginn Park, Buncrana.
