"There is life, after losing your tour card" - Peter Lawrie

With two weeks left on the regular season of the European Tour, time is running out for Peter Lawrie to gain his tour card for next season. Only the top 110 on the Race to Dubai money list earn their card for next year and Lawrie currently lies in 123rd place just over €50,000 outside the cut off.

Lawrie is one of seven Irish playing at the Portugal Masters this week and he knows he needs a strong finish in the Algarve. Speaking to Nick Dye yesterday, Lawrie spoke about the difference in mindset this week, compared to this time last year whe nhe was trying to save his card. "I thought it was going to be the end of the world if I didn't do well and it seriously effected the way I played. This year, I realise it's not actually the end of the world. There is life somewhere, after losing your tour card."

"I'm going to try and smile my way" through the week Lawrie added. He stated that he has been very lucky gaining a lot of tour invites after losing his full playing privileges last year, but is looking forward to a positive week in Vilamoura.

"You come out here (on tour) and you feel that you're not worthy to be out here sometimes. You're trying as hard as you can to feel that you should be here. I know I should be here. My golf game is good enough".

It has been a year where Lawrie has clocked up the air miles which included travelling on a Tuesday to China for a tournament that began on Thursday. "I said at the start of the year 'have clubs, will travel' and that's what I have pretty much done.

Lawrie tees off at 1.40pm this afternoon, and with a prize fund of €2,000,000 the Dubliner will hope for a strong week.
