Tom Brady's private emails show that he once almost, kind of insulted Peyton Manning

The fallout from "deflategate" rumbles on as New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady has turned to the courts in an effort to overturn his suspension by the NFL.

As part of the suit, US District Judge Richard Berman who is hearing the case, decided that neither party would be allowed to submit any evidence under seal, meaning that everything they put forward would be out in the open.

As part of that, 1,408 pages of emails from Brady's Patriots account were submitted, and they have become the topic a of a number of reports since, not least in the Boston Globe, where they detail much of what was contained in those messages.

Much like anyone else's work email, it turns out that when Tom Brady is in the office, he's mainly emailing about boring stuff that really wouldn't interest most of us, but it turns out that he did have one good line, which almost verged on a barb, aimed at his long-time rival Peyton Manning.

Brady's father sent him an article published on Grantland about the rivalry between the two, and while they're always both very complimentary in public about the things hat they say to one another, Brady was a bit less guarded in his response here. The mail he sent back to his dad said "Thanks popa. I've got another 7 or 8 years left. He has 2. That's the final chapter. Game on.".

All in all, that's about the most incriminating thing that was said in his mails, apart from the fact that he spent about $8,500 on a winter pool cover. With training camps taking place as the squads gear up for the start of the NFL season, then it's pretty likely that Peyton will be asked a out this, but given there was speculation he'd call it a day if he won the Super Bowl last year, he's probably not all that insulted by it. The two sides face each other in December of this year, so there might be some added spice to that fixture if either of them still remember that this happened by then.

As balance, Brady did also have an email where he's asked by Francesco Aquilini, a friend who happens to own the Canucks of the NHL, to come by and talk to the players and coaches about nutrition and physical preparation, which he duly accepts. However, instead of payment, what he asks in return is that Aquilini make a donation to his charity to help athletes who can't afford treatment at his TB12 rehabilitation centres.
