Transfer Talk: Leicester hoping to tie down five stars to new contracts

After losing N'Golo Kante to Chelsea, earlier this month. Premier League champions Chelsea are doing all they can to hold onto their other title-winning stars.

According to the Daily Mirror, the club are doing their best to tie down five of their team to new contracts. Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, defender Danny Simpson, midfielders Danny Drinkwater and Jeffrey Schlupp and PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez are all being offered new deals at the club.

Chelsea are hoping to convince Carlos Tevez to return to the Premier League. The Argentine striker currently plays with Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires.

Tevez last played in England in 2013 with Manchester City and has also has spells with West Ham United and Manchester United. The Daily Express say that Chelsea are willing to offer Tevez a one-year deal but he remains unsure about returning to Europe.

The Manchester Evening News claim that Manchester City are preparing to make a move for Lionel Messi, after the former Barcelona president Juan Laporta claimed there was a "conspiracy" to get rid of the player.

Messi is expected to feature for Barcelona this weekend in Dublin. Luis Enrique's side face Celtic in a pre-season friendly at the Aviva Stadium.

Championship side Reading have made an audacious bid to sign former Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart. The 33-year-old has previously played in England with Tottenham.

While van der Vaart's potential move to the Championship may seem fanciful, the team are managed by former Dutch centre-half Jaap Stam. The Daily Mail state that Real Betis may be willing to van der Vaart go on a free transfer.
