US Open: How the Irish have been faring on Day 1

Round 1 at the 2017 US Open is yet to be completed but early on it's Rickie Fowler who is setting the pace.

The US golfer, who has yet to win a major but has managed Top 5 finishes at all four major tournaments so far in his career, leads the way on 7-under after carding an excellent course record 65.

That gives him a two shot lead over a three way tie involving Brian Harman, Tommy Fleetwood and Brooks Koepka who are all on 5-under for the day.

But how are the Irish faring so far on Day 1?

Paul Dunne completed his round earlier and he carded a 75 to sit on 3-over on his US Open debut. He managed a sole birdie on the second.

The 2010 champion Graeme McDowell has also completed his round and sits a shot further back on 4-over.

Teeing off later on the day were Rory McIlroy, who is returning from injury, and Shane Lowry, both of whom remain out on course at Erin Hills.

McIlroy is on 1-under through four thanks to an eagle on 2nd, before dropping a shot on the next hole.

Lowry is also on 1-under through five, having started on the back nine. His birdie came on the 11th and he is yet to drop a shot.
