WATCH: Aidan O'Shea is back on the basketball court in his first training session with the Sligo All-Stars

Aidan O'Shea is a unique footballer, and his height and power make him one of the most difficult players in the game to defend.

Those same skills are also perfectly suited to another sport which the Breaffy man has decided to return to after a seven-year absence - basketball.

O'Shea has no club football or international series ahead of him this winter on the football pitch, so he signed for Ej's Sligo All-Stars earlier this week, and they went behind the scenes to get a look at him in action at his first training session.

Although O'Shea admits that "I haven’t played since my first year in college," he looks at home on the court in the short clip shared by Basketball Ireland on their YouTube page.

In lining out for the All-Stars, O'Shea is following in the footsteps of former Mayo footballer Liam McHale, who also togged out for the same side, or Kieran Donaghy who played for Tralee sides St Brendan's and Tralee Tigers.

O'Shea noted that, given the skills from football can transfer pretty handily, he could twist a few more arms into playing.

"I might rope a few more of the Mayo lads into it too, football skills transfer very well over to basketball so I might get a few more to Sligo - you never know!"

This isn't the first time that O'Shea has swapped one sport for another either, as the Mayo man traded places with former Miaim Dolphins wide receiver Roberto Wallace for The Toughest Trade.

Wallace showed some ability on the field with Breaffy for his part of the swap, while O'Shea relished the challenge of proving his athletic skill in a totally different environment.
