WATCH: An 8-year-old boy was the star of last night's BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards

Andy Murray, Michael O'Neill and AP McCoy were among the big winners at last night's BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, but it was an 8-year-old boy who stole the show.

Bailey Matthews was the winner of the Helen Rollason Award last night in Belfast. It is annually given out "for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity". Matthews received the award for completing a triathlon, despite suffering from cerebral palsy.

Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington and One Direction's Niall Horan were on hand to present the award to the popular Matthews.

The Doncaster native was given a standing ovation by the Belfast public and entertained the crowd with his acceptance speech. He told the crowd that his next goal was to complete five triathlons.

Here is the video that showed Matthews completing the Triathlon with his father Jonathan. The race took place in Castle Howard, Yorkshire in July.
