WATCH: Arsenal's most famous European away nights under Wenger

Given that Arsenal are perennially in the Champions League, it's a disappointment that they have not managed to make more of an impact in the competition over the years.

One appearance in the final back in 2006 and a semi-final in 2009 is the best they have managed under Arsene Wenger's tutelage, although it must be pointed out that they have been competing against elite clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich and sides that have splashed the cash in pursuit of success.

That being said, there have been some nights where Arsenal have done themselves justice in the Champions League, especially away from home.

As they face Monaco tonight, they can definitely take some inspiration from those historic results.

Inter Milan 1 -5 Arsenal

In 2003, at the height of the Invincibles era, Thierry Henry and Robert Pires inspired the Gunners to an excellent win at the San Siro, causing Inter Milan to suffer their worst home defeat in almost 50 years.

Real Madrid 0-1 Arsenal

Monsieur Henry was the hero again as his solo goal gave Arsenal a precious advantage in the last-16 and also led the Gunners to a first win at Real Madrid's Bernabeu.

AC Milan 0-2 Arsenal

Arsene Wenger's 2008 was vintage was young, fearless and could have won the Premier League if disaster had been averted.

In Europe though, Arsenal travelled to the San Siro again to face the European champions in the last-16 and thanks to goals from Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor, enjoyed a stunning victory over a team featuring the likes of Kaka.
