WATCH: Did Ireland get close enough to tackle Messi in 2010?

In the last few hours, the FAI has moved to deny allegations that Ireland's players were paid $10K each to not tackle Lionel Messi during an Ireland v Argentina friendly at the Aviva Stadium in 2010.

The claim is made in Argentinean newspaper La Nacion.

The footage below shows the individual highlights for Messi against Ireland in that friendly.

Bear in mind that it wasn't a competitive game and therefore not played at full pelt, but we're pretty sure Messi was fouled by Richard Dunne on the 3:18 minute mark:
