WATCH: Dimitri Payet's birthday freekick may have booked himself a Euro 2016 ticket

Dimitri Payet has been a revelation in the Premier League this season.

The West Ham star only joined the Londoners last summer after joining from Ligue 1 side Marseille. Despite his performances for Slaven Bilic's side, Payet only returned to the French squad this week for the games against the Netherlands and Russia.

Payet came off the bench against Russia on Tuesday night in the final half hour, hoping to impress manager Didier Deschamps after an excellent performance on Friday night against the Dutch. With his first touch of the game, the newly turned 29-year-old found the back of the net.

Last month, Ben Lyttleton told Off the Ball that Payet was not part of Deschamps plans, but such has been the West Ham players' form, he has forced his way in despite assertions he may not thrive in being a squad player.

"What (Deschamps) is looking for (in his Euro 2016 squad) is probably 18 players that are likely to get game time, but then the other five will be good guys to have around, that obviously have the ability, but will sit on the bench and cheer their teammates. I don't feel that Deschamps thinks that Payet is that type of guy."

Payet's final chance to force his way into the squad may come on May 30th, when France play Cameroon. The deadline for naming the Euro 2016 squad for all 24 teams comes the following day.
