WATCH: Goalkeeper scores stoppage time equaliser from his own box

It's not often that a goalkeeper gets to claim the glory by scoring a last-minute equaliser, but it's even more unusual for that goal to come from about 75 yards out.

That's exactly what happened on Saturday as Hemel Hempstead took on Sutton United however, and with the score at 2-1 in injury time, it looked as though there was no way back for the home side.

Taking the ball in his hands and punting it long up the field, Butler and the fans were both surprised to see it take a wicked bounce and loop up over the head of Ross Worner in the other goal.

Butler, by his own admission, doesn't score many, so he'll remember this one for a long time.

Speaking to the Hemel Hempstead Gazette after the match, the 'keeper said that he had considered the possibility that the long ball could cause real difficulties for the opposition.

"I was thinking 'if this one goes on target it is going to be difficult to deal with', because I saw it for myself in the first half. I really had to keep my eye on any long shots.

"To be fair it couldn’t have gone more in the top corner if I tried so I’m very happy with it, and to get the draw is great".

He's not the first goalscorer to see a speculative effort go in and later claim that he meant it, and he won't be the last.
