WATCH: Here's what the pitch in Glasgow looks like as Leinster's match is postponed

As Storm Desmond batters its way across Ireland and the UK, the sporting calendar is taking a bit of a beating too.

Leinster were set to face Glasgow Warriors on Saturday afternoon, but after a pitch inspection at Scotstoun Stadium on the morning of the match, it was judged that the game should not go ahead.

In a statement, officials said "the pitch at Scotstoun Stadium is unplayable due to surface water and there is a concern for both players and supporters safety given the adverse weather conditions".

They added that fans should retain their tickets for the fixture as they would be valid for the game when it was rescheduled.

Many fans who had hoped to travel to the game were unable to make the journey due to the adverse weather conditions, and a rescheduled fixture may mean they can make the match in the end.

After a bad run in recent weeks, however, Leo Cullen's side may well be thankful for the rest.

No details have been released yet regarding when the game will be arranged for.
