WATCH: James DeGale lost a tooth but unification title fight against Badou Jack still ends in a draw

Following an enthralling encounter in New York, James DeGale and Badou Jack retained their belts after their super-middleweight unification fight ended in a controversial draw.

One judge scored the fight 114-112 in favour of DeGale but the other two recorded it as 113 each, meaning the decision was a majority draw.

DeGale even had his gum shield and a tooth dislodged but the scorecards still couldn't separate them. He was dropped twice, but DeGale managed to stay in the fight, replying with some snappy combinations to take the sting out of Badou's shots.

Despite the punishment he sustained during the contest, DeGale is keen to pursue a rematch and he expressed his wishes in the post-fight interview in the ring.

"I thought I'd done enough but it was the knockdown. He burst my ear drum and I lost my teeth. I don't know what I'm gonna do but I'm still pretty. I've had 25 fights, I'm going to get better and I want the rematch."

"I'm glad I'm still the champion and I'm coming home with the title but I'm so upset that I didn't come with the WBC belt. The main thing is I didn't lose, I'm still the champion and I can move forward."

Floyd Mayweather, Badou Jack's fight promoter, interrupted the interview to congratulate DeGale on his performance but said a rematch is unlikely.

"I like him, this guy right here? He know what he doing. I would never disrespect you. I still like you and appreciate you (DeGale) I want to work with both of you guys. He (Jack) has to go up to light-heavyweight, he's too big for the weight. Thank you for the opportunity, you put in a hell of a fight."

Mayweather labelled the controversial draw as 'bad for boxing.'
