WATCH: Seven of Nigel Owens' best moments on a rugby pitch

Fresh from taking charge of the World Cup final just a week ago, Nigel Owens will appear on Off The Ball on Friday evening to chat with Brian O'Driscoll and the rest of the team.

Owens' position as the best referee in the game was marked with the fact that he was the man with the whistle in the showpiece game of world rugby's biggest tournament, but he has a huge profile off the field too, thanks to the fact that his personality comes through when he's reffing games.

Be it in the Six Nations, the World Cup or the Pro 12, Owens is never short of a funny line or a quick comeback that lets the players know who's in charge, so here are a few of his best moments.

Telling off two full teams

After a scuffle between Leinster and Scarlets players back in 2010, Owens called every single player from both sides in to have a very quick word and lay down the law.

"This is not soccer"

Nigel Owens is very clear who's in charge on the field, and that often means that he has to remind players that they can't shout for calls like they would in a different code.

Playacting is not tolerated

Something tells us that Nigel is not the biggest soccer fan in the world...

"What's my name?"

Rugby is a tough, physical game, and Owens is very aware of that. His primary concern is to make sure that everyone on the field is safe, and this short exchange with Chris Henry during the game against France showed that, as he wanted to make sure that he wasn't concussed. It also confirmed that yes, everyone knows his name.

Lineout technique

He's made fun of plenty of players before, but he's not afraid to take the mick out of himself either.

Sergio Parisse

Speaking of making fun of players, Parisse was on the receiving end of this put down from Owens, although he saw the funny side of it.

Diffusing a tense situation

He also knows how a sarcastic line can make players feel pretty silly about the scuffles they get involved in, and he showed that in this game when he reminded both teams that if they want to "cwtch" (Welsh for hug, or cuddle) they can do it off the field.

Tune into Off The Ball from 7pm this evening to hear Nigel Owens and Biran O'Driscoll chat about the rugby World Cup and more.
