WATCH: One of Ireland's Special Olympic athletes reacts to the news that she won a gold medal

14-year-old Déarbháil Savage from Armagh added another gold to Ireland's tally of medals at the Special Olympics this morning, and reporting on the event from Los Angeles, she was being interviewed by Ian Dempsey on air as the results came in.

They confirmed that Savage had won gold in the equestrian event, and the magical moment was captured on film by Niamh Withers, a volunteer with the Irish team, as Savage and her family celebrate the win.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

Another big day at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, with #TeamIreland securing 7 more medals, bringing the tally to 22. This video from media volunteer Niamh Withers perfectly sums up the emotion & excitement for our athletes, families & volunteers at World Games - see the moment Ulster's Déarbháil Savage from Armagh found out she had won a Gold medal earlier today, whilst speaking to Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show. #LA2015 Special Olympics Ireland

Afterwards, she was happy to show off her new medal to the crowd in attendance too.
