WATCH: What happened when Conor McGregor last fought for a Lightweight title?

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Conor McGregor will look to make history, by becoming the first concurrent two-weight UFC Champion.

The Dubliner, who is the UFC Featherweight Champion, fights Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York, looking to add the UFC Lightweight Championship to his CV. Only two other fighters in the company have won belts at different weight divisions, but never at the same time.

After two fights against Nate Diaz, at Welterweight, McGregor moves down a weight-class to Lightweight to take on Alvarez. It is the first time since New Year's Eve in 2012, that McGregor will have fought at 155lbs and the weekend's fight could see McGregor's career go full circle.

That fight against Ivan Buchinger, was McGregor's final bout before joining the UFC in 2013. On front of a packed crowd in The Helix in DCU, McGregor added the Cage Warriors Lightweight Championship to the Featherweight belt, he won only seven months previously.

McGregor was the first multi-weight champion in the history of Cage Warriors, and although the win over Buchinger was his last in the company, he still proudly calls himself a "two division Cage Warriors World Champion".

Come Sunday morning, he will hope to add the UFC to that list.
